Volunteer Expenses

You can claim back reasonable travel and other expenses associated with your volunteering.

We encourage volunteers to claim expenses - we don't want you to be out-of-pocket for the generous time and support you give. Please read our volunteer expenses information and the FAQs below.

If you have any questions about expenses, or experience any issues filling out the form, please let us know and we can help.

To make a claim, please return a completed form below to your volunteer manager or the Volunteering Team. We have different versions of the expenses form with the aim of making it accessible across a variety of devices:

What do I need to make a claim?
  • Prior approval from your volunteer manager or the Volunteering Team.
  • Lymphoma Action’s volunteer expenses claim form (above).
Please note, you will need to calculate your expenses manually if not using the Excel spreadsheet version.
  • Receipts from your volunteer activity, for example, train or bus tickets, parking receipt. You’ll need to attach a copy of your receipts (a scan or photograph is fine) or send them by post.
  • Your bank details.
What if I didn’t get a receipt / one wasn’t available?

Wherever possible you should ask for receipts for your volunteer expenses, although we understand that in some circumstances it may not always be possible.

You should let your volunteer manager know and clearly write on the expenses form that no receipt was available.

How long will it take for my expenses to be reimbursed?

We aim to pay expenses by bank transfer within six working days of receipt, where possible.

If an expenses form is missing information or we require further details, we will get in contact with you as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

Can I claim expenses if I receive benefits?

Yes, you can claim associated expenses for your volunteering from Lymphoma Action, whilst receiving benefits.

However, it’s important that you inform your benefits office that you are volunteering, and let them know that you can claim out of pocket expenses that cover any costs incurred for your volunteer activity.

What if I decide I don’t want to claim?

We encourage volunteers to claim expenses. As well as making sure you are not out of pocket for the time and support you give, we want to understand the costs associated with volunteering across the organisation.

We understand that some volunteers may not wish to be reimbursed and in this case, you could make a claim and donate it back to Lymphoma Action. (If you are a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donation - an extra 25p per £1 will be donated.)
