Managing symptoms and side effects of lymphoma - a webinar

In this video, recorded during a live webinar, our expert panel discussed the causes and management of symptoms and side effects, with a particular focus on fatigue, itching, peripheral neuropathy and ‘chemo-brain’.

Joining us were Dr Dan Monnery, Palliative Care Consultant and NHS England National Clinical Advisor for Enhanced Supportive Care, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Nikie Catchpool, Consultant Occupational Therapist and Macmillan Professional and Joint Clinical Lead, Bath Centre for Fatigue Services and Charlotte Bloodworth - Advanced Nurse Practitioner, University Hospital Wales.

In this video, Senior Haematology Oncology Occupational therapist Jennifer Woods and Specialist Haematology Physiotherapist Aimee Green talk about an important physical impact of lymphoma: fatigue. The video explains what fatigue – and cancer-related fatigue in particular – is, what guidelines for exercise are, barriers to physical activity and some of the ways in which it can be improved. (This video was recorded for our 2021 Lymphoma Focus Day.)

The video also includes:

  • suggested relaxation and sleep apps (starts at 38 minutes);
  • a progressive muscle relaxation technique (starts at 39 minutes);and
  • signposts to physical activity resources (starts at 49 minutes).

Living well on active monitoring - a joint webinar with Leukaemia Care

The aim of this webinar was to explain the principles of active monitoring (or 'watch and wait') and the rationale for it, the benefits of this approach, and discuss strategies for coping while on active monitoring. We heard from clinicians with experience of supporting individuals with active monitoring, and from people with blood cancer who have experience of this approach.

We were joined by Professor Adam Mead, Consultant Physician and Professor of Haematology, University of Oxford, Dr Chris Fox, Consultant Haematologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and John and Denise who are both living with blood cancer.

Living well with SLL/CLL - a joint webinar with Leukaemia Care

The aim of this webinar was to support those with SLL/CLL to live well with their diagnosis, discussing topics such as how to monitor your health, coping mechanisms such as mindfulness or exercise and how and when to reach out for support. 

We were joined by Professor Chris Fegan, University Hospital Wales, Helen Knight, CLL CNS Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, and John and Jackie, both living with CLL.

Coping with fatigue - a joint webinar with Leukaemia Care

This webinar focused on the causes of fatigue and how it might affect individuals. It looked at helpful definitions and how to explain it to other people, and covered coping strategies and information to better live with fatigue.

We were joined by Angela Watts, Senior Research Nurse, Dr Anne Johnson, Consultant Occupational Therapist, and an individual with lived experience of fatigue caused by blood cancer.
