Our wonderful supporters Deborah, Ruth, Kathryn and Rebecca share why they are taking part in the challenge by walking through York this September.

We are excited to be teaming up with our friends at Leukaemia Care for our first ever Bridges of Britain walk! Taking part is simple - all you need to do is find a bridge in your local area, plan and walk your own route on the weekend of Sunday 27 September 2020, and ask your friends and family to sponsor you to take part. As well as raising funds to support our work, the event aims to raise awareness of blood cancer, including lymphoma.

Our wonderful supporters Deborah, Ruth, Kathryn and Rebecca are taking part in the challenge by walking through York and crossing as many bridges as possible along the way. The family are all gearing up for the challenge, and have even recorded a video of themselves in action! Together, they are looking to raise awareness of lymphoma as the fifth most common cancer in the UK.

Rebecca and family

“It is a cause that is very close to our hearts” says Rebecca. “Sadly we have lost two members of our family to lymphoma - my Grandfather Ron, and very recently my Uncle Richard who fought lymphoma for twelve years."

“Lymphoma Action support so many people affected by lymphoma throughout their diagnosis and treatment” she adds. “Because of the information available on Lymphoma Action’s Lymphoma TrialsLink service, Richard found out about drug trials available and was able to take part in two drug trials that extended his life. Taking part in Bridges of Britain is our way of giving back to the Charity that has supported us, and we want other families to be given the extra years of memories that we were given because of their great work.”

“We are so grateful to Rebecca and her family for their support, especially during this very sad time” adds Sarah Thorn, Community and Partnerships Manager at Lymphoma Action. “Whilst we can’t run fundraising events that encourage mass gatherings at the moment, we are still thinking of ways that people can continue to support us and raise money and awareness to support people affected by lymphoma. Bridges of Britain encourages people to take part in their local area wherever they are in the UK, whilst practicing safe social distancing to protect themselves, their loved ones and their communities. Through funds raised by people like Rebecca and her family, we can continue our work in making sure that no one has to face lymphoma alone.”
