MAST: A trial investigating the link between gut health and stem cell transplant outcomes in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia

This trial aims to see whether improving gut microbiota to healthier levels can improve outcomes in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) having stem cell transplants.

You can share the following ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier with your medical team so they can find out more about the trial: ISRCTN13241761

Trial aim and background

The aim of this trial is to investigate the ability to improve gut microbiota to healthier levels, and whether this improves clinical outcomes after a stem cell transplant. It will also look at how well tolerated and acceptable intestinal microbiota transplant (IMT) is, how effective they are at altering the gut microbiome, and markers of health including admission to intensive care unit, fever and incidence of graft-versus-host disease.

One group of patients will be given a capsule intestinal microbiota transplant, while the other group will be given a placebo. You cannot chose which group, this will be done randomly.

Who can enter

Adults with blood cancers including CLL who are deemed fit for allogenic stem cell transplant may be eligible for this trial.
