Carers Week 2019 - Getting Carers Connected

Published on: 12 June 2019

Carers Week raises awareness of the contributions carers make and the support they need - we want to make sure that everyone who is supporting a loved one with lymphoma knows they are not alone.

Carers Week (10 to 16 June) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. For 2019, Carers Week is focusing on getting carers connected. Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but carers often find it challenging to take care of their own wellbeing whilst caring. It impacts on all aspects of life and caring without the right information and support can be tough.

We are here for you if you are caring for someone affected by lymphoma.

A lymphoma diagnosis brings many changes, not only to the person with the diagnosis but also to their family and friends – those that care for them. Carers may provide practical help, such as travelling to hospital appointments and monitoring health and side effects, or emotional support by being a listening ear. It can bring people closer together through a shared focus; more time spent together, a reassessment of what is important in life and a new appreciation of strengths and values. But it can also be exhausting and stressful.

It is crucially important that carers look after themselves properly:

  • Pay attention to your own feelings and make sure you still make time for yourself.
  • Eat and drink healthily.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Don't take it all on yourself – ask for help from family and friends and be prepared to let some tasks go to other people.

If you would like to talk to someone, please contact our Helpline 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday on freephone 0808 808 5555, by using Live Chat in the purple pop up window below or by emailing information@lymphoma-action.org.uk
