Published on: 6 April 2023

A booster is being offered this spring to protect the most vulnerable from COVID-19.

In March it was announced that the NHS is offering a spring booster to those most at risk from COVID-19. Approximately 5 million people will be offered one, including anyone:

  • over the age of 75
  • in care homes
  • over 5 with a weakened immune system (which includes many people with lymphoma).

As effective as vaccinations are at protecting us from COVID-19, this protection reduces over time, which is why the booster is recommended. If you are not sure if you are eligible, your GP or specialist should be able to tell you, or you can check online using the National Booking Service.

The vaccination programme will start in early April, starting with people in care homes, before being rolled out further. Your GP will send you an invite, or from Wednesday 5th April, it will be possible for everyone eligible to book an appointment online.

The spring booster vaccination programme will run until June.

The expectation is that those most at risk will be offered another booster in the autumn as seasonal boosters replace the universal booster. More information about COVID-19 and the change in boosters can be found on our COVID-19 pages here.
