Influencing the continuing drive for quality care and treatment

The National Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Audit (NNHLA), which is part of the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN), is carrying out the first national audit to evaluate the patterns of care and outcomes for people diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in England and Wales only. The first annual report, based on the audit, is entitled 'State of the Nation report 2024' and is published today. It is written for providers of NHS services, health care regulators, and medical professional associations. It provides them with clear guidance on where improvements are needed and actionable recommendations about how to achieve these improvements, based on robust non-Hodgkin lymphoma data. You can read the report here.

The audit analyses a number of existing national cancer data sets on the diagnosis and treatment of people with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in England and Wales. The results for England cover 2020 and 2021 and those for Wales cover people diagnosed with NHL during 2022.

The national audit is a statistics-based quality improvement project that has the potential to make a big impact and it's fantastic to be involved with it.

Lymphoma Action's role

Patients and patient charities are involved in all aspects of the delivery of the NHL audit, and Lymphoma Action is supporting NATCAN with this work. We provide input as a patient organisation, as well as introductions to patient experts. One of Lymphoma Action's volunteers, Frank Burroughs, is Chair of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum, and commented: "The national audit is a statistics-based quality improvement project that has the potential to make a big impact and it's fantastic to be involved with it."
