Men’s Health Week, from 13-19 June, is designed to increase awareness of preventable health problems – both mental and physical.

It’s important to take notice of how your body feels, and to get checked out if something doesn’t feel quite right. It’s estimated that early cancer diagnoses in the UK fell by a third during the COVID-19 pandemic due to people not going to get checked out by their GP.

This year, Men’s Health Week is focusing on encouraging men (and others!) to give themselves a self MOT.

To be able to give yourself a MOT it is important to be aware of symptoms. Here we look at the most common symptoms of lymphoma to look out for:

  • swollen lymph nodes (a lump or lumps, usually in the neck, armpit or groin)
  • fatigue (feeling exhausted for no obvious reason)
  • unexplained weight loss (losing a lot of weight quickly without trying)
  • infections (getting infections more easily and finding them difficult to get rid of)
  • sweats (often described as ‘drenching’ these are most common at night)
  • itching (without a rash)
  • fever (temperatures above 38°C or 100.4°F)

If you already have a lymphoma diagnosis and have been treated, it’s important to look out for any new symptoms after finishing treatment. Tell your medical teamif you notice any new symptoms.

This Men’s Health Week, it’s time for your MOT. Find out more information and download a resource pack on the Men’s Health Forum.
