International Clinical Trials Day is an opportunity to thank the clinical research community. We celebrate on 20 May to recognise the day that James Lind, a ship’s surgeon in the British Royal Navy, started what is often considered the first randomised clinical trial in 1774.

Clinical trials carried out in the past underpin the treatments available today. They are vital for increasing options available to patients, as well as improving outcomes and quality of life. The lymphoma research community is extremely active with many open trials investigating promising new treatment options. Lymphoma Action have attended a number of scientific meetings this year to ensure we keep our community up to date. You can read reports about the latest clinical trials in our magazine Lymphoma Matters.

If you’d like to know more about clinical trials, you can use our clinical trials information service called Lymphoma TrialsLink. It includes information about what clinical trials are, what they involve, and questions to consider before taking part in a trial. It also has a database of clinical trials open in the UK for people affected by lymphoma. If you would like to take part in a clinical trial, you can take the trial summary from our database to your specialist for a discussion.

If you have any general questions about clinical trials, get in touch by emailing trialslink@lymphoma-action.org.uk.
