DOLPHIN-VIVO: an observational study looking at diagnosing lymphoma with a less invasive method

This study does not involve any treatment. The researchers are testing a new probe that would be able to diagnose lymphoma without the need for a biopsy.

You can share the following ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier with your medical team so they can find out more about the trial: NCT04162431

Trial aim and background

The aim of this trial is to demonstrate the new probe devise as being effective in diagnosing lymphoma.

A lymphoma diagnosis often involves the removal and biopsy of one or more lymph nodes. Many of these diagnostic procedures show that no cancer is present, meaning that a lot of the procedures are unnecessary.

Investigators in the DOLPHIN-VIVO study have shown that it is possible to tell the difference between healthy cells and cancerous cells by looking at the light emitted by tissue when a laser is shone on it. They have designed a probe that goes through a fine needle to the lymph node, guided by an ultrasound scan.

Who can enter

Patients undergoing biopsy or excision of lymph nodes as part of their routine clinical care within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust may be eligible for this trial.

Locations

Recruitment is taking place at the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucester
