Former Royal Marine Tim Crossin is taking a cold water plunge every day throughout January to raise funds and awareness for three charities close to his heart, Including Lymphoma Action. We went along to cheer him on at his ninth plunge on Monday 9 January at Prince’s Dock in Liverpool. Media and photographers also came along to capture the moment which resulted in an exciting feature on BBC Breakfast.

Proceeds will also go to The Royal Marines Charity and Rock 2 Recovery. This dip was the latest in a series that is taking Tim in a clockwise camper van road trip around the British coast, starting and finishing in Poole.

In total Tim will visit 31 locations around England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, pulling on his trunks for a swim, no matter what the weather. Tim has had three lymphoma cancers in the last four years and was re-diagnosed with cancer again in December 2022.

If you would like to go and cheer Tim on dates and locations of his upcoming dips can be found on his website colddipcommando.com. You can also follow Tim’s challenge and watch regular updates on his Instagram @coldipcommando.

He says: “As a former Royal Marine, I’d like to be running up a mountain, with a fridge on my back or swimming the Channel dragging a piano or something else mad and extreme, but all the chemotherapy has severely damaged my lungs limiting my physical capability. Although I can’t swim for long I thought I could raise some money and awareness by doing short swims around the country every day in January.”

“Cancer can, if you let it, take over your life and become the only topic of conversation. I decided to change the narrative as well as do something good and to give back.”  Tim said. “The cold water takes your mind off your problems and focuses your thoughts on that exact moment. I have found it extremely beneficial in dealing with the emotional and physical challenges and demands of living with cancer.”

“The support has been amazing so far and I know there are many more veterans, serving personnel, swimming groups and general public round the country, who will take the plunge with me and enjoy a hot drink and chat afterwards, the support of the communities I visit is key to this initiative.”

Tim has already raised over £13,500! If you would like to donate you can do so via Tim’s Justgiving Page which can be found at https://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/colddipcommando
