Megan was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma when she was just 26. Now in remission, Megan supported our awareness campaign for Blood Cancer Awareness Month 2020 by highlighting that lymphoma is the most common cancer in teenagers and young adults.

I first went to the GP in 2017 where a lump had formed in my neck area. After going for an ultra sound scan, I was told my lump was benign and nothing to worry about. But in 2019 I noticed more lumps had started to appear under the surface of my skin. I went back to my GP, and was immediately referred for a biopsy, which showed I had Hodgkin lymphoma

Following my diagnosis, I turned to the information provided by Lymphoma Action to help me understand my condition and the treatment that would follow. The information about lymphoma on the Charity’s website really helped me come to terms with my diagnosis, and I felt I could regain some control over the situation by understanding more about what I was going to face. After a number of rounds of chemotherapy, and a hospital stay after developing sepsis, I was told in December 2019 that my lymphoma was in remission.

Cancer opens your eyes to so many things. I certainly never expected to have cancer at such a young age, but now I never take a day for granted, and I make sure that I am doing the things that I want to do for myself. I have started my own blog, written poems and I have started writing my own story about my experience that I hope one day will be published! I want to help others and am so passionate about supporting people affected by cancer. I would love to get involved with Lymphoma Action’s volunteering programme at some point in the future, and I am about to start my training as an occupational therapist that I hope will ultimately lead to a placement where I can help patients through their own cancer journeys.
