From 8 to 14 May, it’s Dying Matters Awareness Week. Dying Matters is a national campaign run by Hospice UK, and encourages people to get talking about death, dying and grief, to reduce the stigma and social isolation.

This year, the campaign’s theme is focusing on Dying Matters at work, and aims to create more compassionate workplaces that are open to the conversation about dying, death and grief. Just over half of employees have experienced a bereavement in the last five years, and over 600 people stop working everyday to look after older relatives and those with health issues. These statistics demonstrate how common it is to experience emotions related to dying and death, and highlights the importance of having an open space to talk about it.

People spend a lot of their time in their workplace surrounded by colleagues, and the Dying Matters campaign wants to empower employees to talk about their experiences of death and dying with their peers and bosses.

How can I get involved?
