Great North Run
Officially the world's biggest half marathon, the Great North Run takes runners on a 13.1 mile route from Newcastle's city centre to the coast in South Shields.
The 2020 Great North Run has been cancelled and is now scheduled to take place on 12 September 2021.

Every year almost 60,000 people line up in the centre of Newcastle and cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge for the start of the Great North Run where you'll get a glimpse of the Red Arrows passing overhead! The route, lined by thousands of supporters, leads runners to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights - with just over a mile to go until the finish!
Event date: 12 September 2021
Distance: 13.1 miles
