Taking part is simple - ask your friends and family to sponsor you to complete a festive 5k run or walk in your local area across the weekend of the 5 and 6 December. It really is a race at your own pace! It can be run or walked from any location you choose, so long as you stay safe and follow the most up-to-date Government COVID-19 guidelines. You could go for a festive walk and take in the Christmas lights around your neighborhood, run on a trail, or even jog around your garden! So dress in your best festive gear and spread some festive cheer whilst raising funds to support people affected by lymphoma!
One of our wonderful supporters, Ruth, is taking part in the virtual run as a thank you to us as a charity for supporting her family since her dad, Dan, received a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2018. ‘I think Lymphoma Action’s work is amazing’ she says. ‘My dad’s diagnosis was a real shock to everyone, but Lymphoma Action have been a great support to us throughout this tough time. I have already held a bake sale, which raised £78 for the Charity in 2019, and I have enjoyed running park runs for the past two years, so I thought the Santa Run sounded like a good idea! Unfortunately, I will need to run it a little later than the 5 December as I have recently had an injury, but as it is a race at your pace it means I can still take part in my own time when I am feeling better!’
‘We are so grateful to Ruth and her family for their support’ says Sarah Thorn, Partnerships Manager at Lymphoma Action. ‘This has been a challenging year for everyone, but as the only charity in the UK dedicated to lymphoma, we are still here providing vital support and information for people affected by this blood cancer and we are still thinking of ways that people can support us and raise money to help us continue our work. Our Santa Run encourages people to take part in something fun and festive in their local area, so long as they stay safe. Registration includes a Santa hat and beard for adults or an elf hat and mask for children! Through funds raised by people like Ruth, we can continue making sure that no one has to face their lymphoma alone.’
There are many ways to support Lymphoma Action over the festive period! We have a lovely selection of Christmas cards available to purchase online, and our Festive Fashion day on Friday 4 December encourages everyone to get in the Christmas spirit by donning their jolly jumpers, festive frocks or wintery waistcoats! This year, our Christmas Appeal asks for your much-needed support following a year where our income has been affected significantly. Any gift that you can give this Christmas – be it a one-off donation, or a regular gift, will be greatly appreciated.
