Public affairs update
Published on: 15 November 2024With the new Government working on ambitious reforms to the NHS, it’s a busy time for blood cancer charities as we strive to make our voices heard.
This week alone Lymphoma Action has supported two major initiatives that we hope will amplify the voices of people affected by lymphoma.
Blood Cancer Alliance Parliamentary engagement programme
The Blood Cancer Alliance is a group of fifteen blood cancer charities. Lymphoma Action is a member of the Alliance, and our CEO, Ropinder Gill, is Vice-Chair of the BCA Steering Committee.
This week the BCA launched its Parliamentary engagement programme. This involves emailing all MPs and seeking meetings with them to secure their support in raising the profile of blood cancer and the need for improvement in diagnosis, treatment, and care in Westminster.
We’re supporting the Blood Cancer Alliance as they call on the Government to take meaningful action to improve NHS blood cancer care.
The Big Cancer52 Conversation
We also attended the Big Cancer Conversation hosted by Cancer52, a coalition of more than 100 cancer charities representing rare and less common cancers (this includes all cancers other than the ‘big four’). Cancer52 were presenting their new report on reducing health inequalities for people with rare and less common cancers.
We then discussed the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan consultation. You'll be hearing more from us about this soon – it's an excellent opportunity for us all to have our say.
Anna Grint, Public and Patient Affairs Advisor at Lymphoma Action, comments: “In partnership with other blood cancer charities, we're championing the needs of people with lymphoma and working hard to drive positive change in the healthcare landscape.”
