NHS ‘Reducing cancer barriers' awareness campaign
Published on: 29 January 2025Addressing the fear around cancer diagnosis and the importance of recognising bodily changes that could be a sign of cancer.

Earlier this month, the NHS launched the latest phase of their 'Help Us, Help You' awareness campaign. ‘Reducing cancer barriers' aims to raise awareness of the importance of getting checked by your GP if you experience potential signs of cancer.
Research shows that people are more likely to regularly check their bank balance (80%), the weather forecast (70%), sport results (42%) and upcoming entertainment such as TV shows (41%), than they are to check for changes in their body (39%) - despite this being vital to spot potential signs of cancer. And only half (50%) say that booking an appointment with their GP would be the first thing they’d do if they noticed a change in their body which might be a sign of cancer – despite this being the NHS recommendation.
We're supporting the NHS campaign by helping to spread the message that finding cancer early makes it more treatable and can save lives. So it's important that people don't put off getting checked because they hope the symptoms will go away or are afraid of getting bad news.
As lymphoma is complex and can be difficult to diagnose, awareness campaigns that help to encourage people to seek medical advice when something doesn't feel right are extremely important. We will be sharing the NHS campaign across our social media channels between now and the end of the campaign on 30 March. Please help us by liking, commenting on, and sharing our posts and stories whenever you see them.
Don’t carry the worry of cancer with you, if something in your body doesn’t feel right, contact your GP practice. Until you find out, you can’t rule it out. For more information on cancer signs and symptoms go to https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cancer/symptoms/.
