We're supporting the NHS ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaign

NHS England & NHS Improvement has launched a new phase of the ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaign taking a radically different approach to detecting cancer earlier.

We are supporting this campaign by raising awareness of the symptoms of lymphoma, which can be particularly difficult to diagnose.

New NHS survey data released reveals that over two fifths (42%) said they would ignore symptoms, wait to see if anything changed, look for answers online or speak to family and friends before seeing their GP.

The ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaign aims to address these barriers to people coming forward early by encouraging those who have noticed something in their body that doesn’t feel right and are worried it could be cancer to contact their GP practice. Most people who are referred for tests by their GP find out it’s not cancer, but finding out sooner is always better.

Lymphoma is the fifth most common type of cancer in the UK. It can occur at any age and it is nearly always treatable.

It is important to see your GP if you have any of the following symptoms of lymphoma:

  • A new lump (swollen lymph nodes): typically in the neck, armpit, groin or other places
  • Weight loss: losing weight quickly without trying to
  • Drenching sweats: especially at night and so much that nightclothes and bedding become soaked
  • Itching: which might be worse in hot weather or at night
  • Fatigue: feeling so exhausted that it’s hard to carry on with your usual activities
  • Fever: a high temperature (above 38oC) that might come and go
  • Frequent infections: or that are more severe or last longer

If you have any questions about lymphoma, or are concerned about any of the symptoms, call our helpline on 0808 808 5555.
