Essy Beth's charity single

Singer-songwriter Essy Beth has released a charity single about her dad's experience with lymphoma, to raise money to support the work we do.

When Essy Beth's dad, Duncan, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2018, she wrote the song 'You Do You' to help support him through his treatment. She has very generously released it as a charity single to support our work so we can make sure families like hers do not have to face lymphoma alone.

'Dad worried about everyone else and wanted to make sure they were okay. What I soon realised is that it was okay to tell him to go be alone, to go rest, not to worry about saying hello when I came to visit. I needed to let him know that some days he will spend all day in bed and that is okay! That's where the phrase ‘You Do You’ has come from.'

I hope the song helps others with lymphoma, and anyone else going through chemotherapy, to understand that it's important to do what is right for you.

Duncan has been attending our Support Group in Brighouse to help him cope.

He says, 'The Lymphoma Action Support Group were particularly useful because when you're diagnosed with cancer you're not aware of so many things, you have so many questions, and so much to learn. I felt down... but when you get into a group of people who have experience of the disease you can ask real questions and get proper support.'
