Who we are

Our staff and volunteers work hard to make sure that everyone affected by lymphoma in the UK has the best possible information, support, treatment and care. To achieve this, we work closely with our Trustees and our Medical Advisory Panel.

Together we help people with lymphoma and their families by providing reliable information and the right support. We help doctors and nurses so that they can provide the best care possible to people with lymphoma. We raise awareness and make sure that lymphoma is not forgotten by government and policymakers. We support the thousands of fundraisers and donors who make our work possible.

Our Trustees

David Barnett
David has been a trustee of Lymphoma Action since 2001. Since he retired from a 36-year career with a major securities firm in the City, he has become involved with a number of pension funds and charities as a trustee or patron. He is also a governor of Reed’s School, Cobham, Surrey and a member of the Investment Committee of the Goldsmiths Company.

Tricia Cavell
Tricia has worked in the charity sector for over 20 years having entered the profession from a career in banking and finance. Tricia has a Master’s degree in Hospice Leadership from Lancaster University and is a member of the Institute of Fundraising (IoF). Through the IoF she has acted as a mentor for fundraisers and has spoken at national conferences for both the Institute and Hospice UK.Tricia is married to Rob, lives in Worcestershire and they have adult twin daughters Francesca and Emily-Kate. Tricia often raises funds herself through a variety of fundraising activities, anything from running the London Marathon to eating a record number of profiteroles! Tricia is a member of the Finance Committee.

June Cook
June studied Sociology and Education at Warwick University, subsequently gained a Diploma in Marketing and is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She worked in sales, marketing and human resources for a large multinational company for the majority of her professional life, attaining her most recent position as Senior Human Resources Manager. June took early retirement to spend more time with her husband who had been treated for bowel cancer. Although in remission, he was then diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma from which he passed away in 2013. During her time in business, June supported key leaders who worked with government officials and feels it is important for charities to engage with decision makers. In her spare time June takes part in charity fundraising events

Steve Dunn
Steve is currently our treasurer, and has recently retired after a demanding career working at chief financial officer level for a number of international companies - from successful start-ups to large corporations. His final executive appointment was with a UK health charity where he enjoyed the dedication and passion shown by his colleagues. He was determined to stay involved with health charities following his retirement. His late father, who suffered from a blood cancer, had his life prolonged thanks to his participation in drug trials, and Steve is keen to improve the outlook and care for those in a similar situation.

Jeremy Harrington
Jeremy has been working in IT at a senior management level for 30 years.  He has worked in the City of London in the banking and financial services sector for most of that time. He joined the Institute of Cancer Research as Director of IT in 2004 and is immensely proud to be part of the ground-breaking work they do in the mission to defeat cancer. He is keen to bring his experience to bear at Lymphoma Action in all things digital.

Mark Harrison
Mark qualified as a chartered engineer and subsequently undertook an MBA. He has spent more than 20 years in general management for a major energy company in a wide variety of commercial leadership roles. Mark’s father was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma) in 2010, which brought him into contact with Lymphoma Action’s work. He is married to Sharron and they have two daughters and two sons.

Gordon Johns
Gordon Johns became chair of Lymphoma Action's trustees in 2013. Before his retirement in 2006, he spent his entire career in the financial services industry in the City of London, including 10 years as chief executive of an investment management firm. He is Chairman of the Board of Bedford Hospital, a trustee of the Balliol Society Educational Trust, and a senior coach for the Institute of Advanced Motorists. He has been one of our trustees since 2011.

Nicola King
After originally qualifying as a pharmacist, Nicola moved into general management of the NHS and became Head of Commissioning Skills for NHS England in 2012.  She now works as a consultant to the NHS and those working in the wider health sector.  She has previously worked in all parts of the NHS, including a spell seconded to the Department of Health as the programme lead for Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) development.

She says her career with the NHS, which started in the early 1990s and culminated in a national role, has given her both clinical experience and a detailed insight into the planning and organisation of health services. In addition to this work, she has also taken on non-executive roles with a range of public sector and not for profit organisations. She became aware of Lymphoma Action when she lost her younger brother to lymphoma in 2011. Since then, she and her family have raised money for the charity and continue to do so. Nicola lives in Bolton with her husband and two children.

Burton Paul
Burton qualified as an engineer at the University of California and subsequently gained his MBA. Since the late 1980s he has pursued a global career managing projects in the construction, engineering, entertainment, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, increasingly focusing on internet use for both marketing and the dissemination of information.

He is now working towards his PhD at Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine, looking at how medical professionals and patients are using the web, and at the rapidly expanding trend for empowerment and self-health management by patients using online resources.

Dr Ben Riley
Ben is a GP as well as the Medical Director of Curriculum at the Royal College of GPs, where he is a leader in GP training. He has a particular interest in developing training programmes, e-learning courses, books and other educational materials for GPs and nurses. He is also the Chair of OxFed – The Oxford Federation for General Practice and Primary Care – a network of NHS practices that provide care for 210,000 people who live in the city. Ben studied medicine at the University of Oxford and became a Lymphoma Action trustee in 2012.
