OCV petition delivered to No 10!

Published on: 24 March 2023

A petition calling for the UK Government to tackle the crisis in cancer care.

BCA at OCV hero

On 7 February we launched a petition with 60+ charities, as part of One Cancer Voice, calling for the UK Government to tackle the crisis in cancer care.

The petition ran for one month and received 76, 559 signatures in total, demonstrating the support from across the cancer community for the government to put the needs of people with cancer first. We are urging the government to:

  • Ensure the upcoming Major Conditions Strategy is ambitious, fully-funded and listens to the voices and evidence of the cancer community.
  • Commit to a longer-term strategy for cancer which focusses on transforming cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and patient experience.

On Wednesday 22 March we headed down to Westminster with One Cancer Voice to hand the petition in.

The hand-in was attended by representatives from several charities including members of the Blood Cancer Alliance, as well as people with lived experience of cancer. There was also cross-party representation from MPs who came to support and a few even walked across Westminster with the group to hand-in the petition to Number 10. It was brilliant to see so many people come together for this important cause. By uniting as One Cancer Voice, we are louder and stronger, and we are urging the government to listen.

We hope that the significant public support for more dedicated action on cancer, alongside the evidence we have provided over the past year on what we want included in a cancer plan, leads to change. We will continue to work with One Cancer Voice and engage with the government to ensure this.
